Specs: Win xp pro 2600, 1 GB

Weird name resolution problem. All sites except google domain are opening. only google sites, mail.google.com, groups.google.com etc aren't opening.
I can open them with their explicit ip addresses as well..
Is this a problem with google's name resolution or has my ISP specifically blocked sites with google name in them or worse still, is my pc infected with a google specific worm!!?? anyone heard of this?

I happen to know a few ip addresses for google's main site(eg 64.233.161.100) so that's no problem but not for other services like gmail!!
So i'd like to know if anyone knows any ip addresses for gmail and if anyone's faced a similar problem.
Location: chennai
ISP: BSNL

I'm in the U.S.A. and I don't have any problem accessing any of Google sites. I understand you are in India so can you verify that your ISP isn't blocking Google by asking your friends?

Thanks for the reply.
I resolved the problem. I think my guess was right, the default DNS server wasn't able to resolve the ip address. I don't know why that was google specific.
But I just changed the dns server and all google sites open fine now.

If the problem is the same, ie name resolution, then it'll be ok if u change your dns server.
in simple language, if u can open google like this "64.233.161.100" but not with "www.google.com" then it means that your DNS server is not working properly.
In that case, click on your Connection, the blinking icon in the right hand side. click on properties and double click on Internet protocol.
There'll be an entry there which says:
"OObtain Dns server automatically"
or
"Use the following DNS server address"
choose this second one and type in
"218.248.240.46"
and alternate as "218.248.255.146"
it may fix your problem.
but if all sites stop opening after this change it back to the way it was and call your ISP.
