I have two computers, 1 runs NT 4.0 and the other 98. I have 2 ethernet cards in each computer. 1 set of cards are 3com 10/100 cards and are LAN linked to the internet with separate IP addresses hooked through a 10Mbps line. The other cards are gigabit cards for direct file sharing between the two computers. When just the gigabit cards are hooked up I see a 100Mbps speed but still not gigabit. When both boards are up and active I only see 10 Mbps no matter how I transfer files. I tried setting each set of cards to use different networking protocols. I set the 3com to use TCP/IP and the gigabit to use NETBUEI. Is there a way to force the computers to use the gigabit cards to talk to each other and use the 3com to talk to the internet? I am using two cards b/c of large file transfers not b/c of security.

Evan,
You can fix it. Go into the properties of your network neighborhood, and select Bindings. Show bindings for: All adapters. For the outside NIC, turn off WINS Client (TCP/IP). This will force the NT machine to only use the inside NIC to communicate with your 98 box for file sharing and so on.
On the 9x machine, go into network neighborhood properties, and select the TCP/IP properties of the external NIC. Uncheck "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks". You'll get an error, but that's what your other NIC is for.If you run into problems on the 9x machine while trying to connect ot the Internet, you may have to turn those back on, but I think you'll be OK.Good luck,
Chase
