gateway ip ping failed

Specs: Windows Vista, AMD Turion 64 x2 (32-bit OS)--2GHz / 3GB ram

For the 1st time, I just now connected to a GUEST wi-fi at Park Nicollet Hospital;
and I'm on it right now too:

I just completed running a network diagnostic and it said OK for quite a few things;
EXCEPT it says "Gateway IP ping failed" -- in fact, all of the network seems (?) to be
working right now, BUT I'M STILL WONDER what does that "Gateway IP ping failed"
mean ???
There is one minor detail yet: When I VPN over to my usual work-site on the web,
the screen does NOT completely refresh -- so I can't read the entire screen (most of
it is not there) -- but that's just for that VPN site (connecting to my work); OTHERWISE,
this report I'm writing to you and every other web site appears OK.

Is that "Gateway IP ping failed" error affecting my VPN connection to my work-site ???

The "gateway" is configured to not respond to ping. A common first step security setting.

Sounds like the Hospital is throttling [limiting] your connection which is why the screen refresh is slow or there is something wrong with your vpn setup unrelated to the hospital.
