I am Trying to access a NAS Storage Drive from Work to Home for a backup
I am using Backup4all with a FTP connection
I have opened port 21 at Home Ticked FTP in my firewall advanced settings.
I can access the NAS Storage Drive Locally so I know all is working at that end.
I am using 192.168.1.??? with a TP Link Router at work but it will not connect
I have tried this via a Normal FTP program with still a non result.
I am at a lose was to where to go from hereAllan Butler

First off at work do they allow FTP Connection to the outside world ??
Maybe the System Admin have blocked this type of activity ?
Secondly you need to know the IP Address your ISP has allocated you as that is the address to the outside world your home router has.
In a nutshell you have to break out of your Work LAN and break into your Home LAN over the WWW. Good Luck

Thanks for the response
I have administrator Rights.
Setting the work computer and my home computer for FTP - Is that just a matter of ticking "FTP server" in the Advanced settings in the firewall.Allan Butler

You have not grasped the concept, does where you work have a SERVER ?
This article may or may not give you some insight.............

The network at the office is just setup as P2P
All computers in the network can share filesThe NAS backup drive is at home
Sorry for the ignorance on my partAllan Butler

Does that sound correctThanks again
Allan Butler

I think wee are getting off the track
Remote access to another computer is not the issue. I do that with https://secure.logmein.com
I am trying to connect to a NAS Storage drive remotely
The first in the list tells most of the story
Thanks for the response anyhowAB
Allan Butler

Well all is fixed
All I had to do is use the external IP address rather than the internal IP addressThanks to all
Hope my comment helps othersRegards
