Subject: FTP Storage - set up server? help?!
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: na
Model/Manufacturer: netstore 3500
Comment:
Hi there,

Ok so, I have a Packard Bell Netstore 3500. It is plugged into my Belkin N1 wireless router. I have successfully installed the hard drive into my network and my files are on it.

The netstore has an ftp server. DOes this mean I should be able to access my files remotely via the internet?

I have set up accounts on the management for FTP access but I cannot work out how to access the storage remotely?

Do i need to change some settings on the router? Please help!

Thanks

You have to forward ftp to your netstore.

If you want to access your netstore remotely, your also need to know the current external (public) ip address of your belkin router.

FTP is not really a secure means.

As above you can use the IP of the nas and translate it with your router to the public ip address. You don't want to dmz it but you map it with the web based setup in the router. You may have to know the mac address. It is in the docs that came with the router most likely.

You may have to follow your static IP with a dynamic dns service. See ddns services and clients.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
