Hi,
I set up FTP server on my local PC, inside the LAN, and I can access it using internal IP address - no problem, but the idea is to have access to it from the Internet. I have switched on port forwarding on my O2 broadband ADSL router, and of course I've set up dynamic DNS, but I can't access the server from outside the LAN. Using domain nor external IP (which is still the same) helps.
Application sharing is allowed by the firewall.

Any advice is welcomed.
Thank you,

tressor

Check with you ISP that they are not blocking port 21. Some block port 80 with prevents a Web Server. They may also be blocking port 21 which can be heavy on bandwidth as well.

Have you tested to access your FTP server within your network through the pubic IP of your router?
This is, what mostly will not work properly.

You need another seperate internet connection to test whether it works or not.

You can check, whether the port 21 for FTP is open at this link:

http://www.auditmypc.com

Try the firewall test and check for port 21.

What is the make / model / version of your Router and its firmware?
You may want to check for firmware updates, and if its a Router from the ISP, I have seen those be flakey on actual port forwarding. I had a comcast router doing the same thing, sent it back and got a modem with a Linksys router that I bought, and it worked fine.

Thanks for any input.

Firewall issue. Be sure that application is open to lan ip address.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Hi,
thanks for your replies, i check my pc on auditmypc.com and it shows that my router has only one port open - 21.
So if router listens on 21, my PC listens on 21 (ftp on lan is working), where is the issue? I am not sure, but does this matter that i can't ping my router from outside - 100% lost
But this might be security isue - ICMP switched off.

I had the problem of only being able to access my ftp inside of my network for a while. All I had to do was set up some passive ports. In winftp server you have to set up a range of passive ports. Then forward that port range on your router. I would assume all ftp programs need the same.

If there is a firewall runnig at the PC, where the FTP server is running, make sure, that port 20 is also allowed. This port is used by FTP for the data transmission.

This tells me you haven't forwarded port 21.

You need to enable a port forward on your firewall. Tell it to forward port 21 to the IP of the computer running the ftp software. Make sure the ftp software is running in server mode (ie: listening for connections on port 21) and all should work correctly.
