PC-A has 100mb download & 100mb upload speed
PC-B has 4mb download & 0.4mb upload speed

If i want to transfer file using FTP from PC-A to PC-B what kind of speed i expect if both are running at maximum speed ?

Currently i am getting transfer rate around 200 to 230KB/sec.

Thank you very much

I assume that you have two local machines where one is a server running a FTP server and the other is running a FTP client software package and the internet is not involved.

PC-A uploading at 100 megabits per second and PC-B downloading at 4 megabits per second should yield the slowest of the two at 4 megabits per second or 500 KBps.

But, what are you using to measure the transfer speed. The average of the download including encoding and compiling or individual packets during the transmission?

The fastest single packet can travel at 500 KBps. There is no suggestion that states that any or all will travel at those obtainable speeds. There are many factors that can and will effect the speed of a transmission.

My automobile can go 120 MPH but again many factors keep me from doing so.

Thank you very much Bryan

PC-A is local machine located in Japan (FTP Server using Serve-u)
PC-B is local machine located in UK (FTP Client using Voyager)

The files I’m transferring are MPEG. In fact I do it everyday so it will be helpful if the file can be transferred faster.
I would like to have higher than 4mb in UK but that’s the best I can get in located area.
I think 200-230kbs is equivalent of running about 2mb.
4mb I believe should produce maximum speed of 450KB/sec.

The question here is if one side is uploading and one side is downloading at same time is this mean you are accumulating half the speed from each machine line? So it means 200-230KB/sec is the best I can do?
