A buddy sent me an address 64.***.***.*** and a user name and a password. I'm assuming it is FTP. I type in the IE address bar 64.***.***.*** and hit enter.
I get a FTP Error "Windows cannot accress this folder. Make sure you type the address name in correctly and have permission to access"
"A connection with server could not be established"

Am I doing something wrong, he tells me his server is always on,, always!

Wow, this post looks kind of familiar. OK, so you're trying to access an FTP site with IE. I assume you are telling IE to use the right protocol, ie. ftp://64.*** since you say you are getting an FTP error.

But, IE is not always able to properly display a login for you, so what you have to do is put the login information with the address information. For example:

ftp://username:password@64.15.21.3

And, if there is a different port number, don't forget to tag that on at the end. For example:

ftp://username:password@24.12.2.36:7000

Where 7000 would be the alternate port number. Try that.

...not the alternate port number, 7000, just try putting in the login information with the ftp address.

"always on, always!"

I swear I have seen that from some commerical advertisement.

Forget IE. Get one of any number of FTP programs (FileZilla for example) and try the address, password, and username in that.
