I'm trying to setup a ftp behind my linksys router. i read something about ip forwarding but it doesn't seem to be working. i set the range from 20-22 and i set the ip address of my computer. can someone tell me what else i can do? thanks.

anyone have any other ideas??? i've been trying to get this to work for quite some time and given up quite a few times only to try agian and fail time after time.

Yeah I've been trying to get mine working as well... I have a LinkSys BEFSR41. I able to get the FTP server to work by going to Advanced (from first screen from login) then to Forwarding... In the service port Range set it to range of 20-21... (FTP 21 is for actual FTP login and commands and 20 is for Data). You can leave protocol set to Both or set it to TCP only. I would set it to TCP only. Cause if you leave UDP open, someone can UDP flood that port and either shut down the FTP server or kill the internet connection until the next time your reboot the router or the router send out a DHCP request. Don't set any filters for these ports or your server machine's IP. Filters are used to keep traffic from going out. Only setup Port forwarding. Port triggering will not be needed. You should be able to hit your FTP server using you WAN IP from anywhere. If not play with it a bit. Turn on Remote Management on Filters page. Then you should be able to login from anywhere with http://:8080 This should work....
OK now with that out of the way. I should warn you. Don't use it too much. (Like massive amounts of downloads/uploads.) If your ISP catches you, you will get your service cut. My problem is that I use Bullet Proof FTP (Gene6) for the FTP server and I try to recongifure all of the settings on server and corresponding router settings to listen on a higher port, like 45816... or something. ISP's don't usually scan that high up. (BTW Available ports 1-65535)
The problem is when I connect from somewhere else ex: work... I can log in but cannot get data port to connect. I've tried setting up passive ports and forwarding em but no go. What it's doing is getting the correct WAN IP address ex:123.123.123.1 upon connection but when trying to connect to data port, Port command shows the computer's (the one I'm connecting from) local IP ex: 192.168.2.100... Which is a "home network address" This IP address doesn't route through the internet. Will not find a destination point. So My Server answers the login attempt but then answers the port command for data with a un-routable IP. Happens with a couple of different FTP server proggies. So I know it's not the software. I think it has to do with NAT in the router. I don't know. Anyway... I went into all this so that if you ever happen to find a fix or if someone reading this long-freakin POST knows how to fix this. PLZ!!! Email me.
Hope this helps,
DAN
