Frontier DSL disconnect every 5 minutes

Specs: Windows XP, Intel T7300 @ 2.00 ghz. 4gb of Ram
I live in a brand new apartment complex near a college. The landlord is giving us all the runaround, saying that frontier needs to add more ip addresses to the network, and nothing will work until Friday. Well, I called frontier directly, and a manager said that the ip addresses had already been added, and things should be working normal. He was surprised when I said I was getting dropped every 5 minutes.

Once I am dropped, I simply unplug the ethernet cord, wait a few seconds, plug it back in, and am good to go. For another 5 minutes.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Do you get your internet direct from Frontier, or is it through the apartment complex itself?

If the apartment, then the landlord needs to get a professional in to look over his setup and if nothing is wrong with it, contact Frontier.

if you're getting it directly from the provider, then you will need to call them. You could have a faulty modem.

Whichever way you get it, I highly recommend you spend the money on a SOHO Router to protect yourself from intrusion.

I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
