Freezes with Cable in

Hi, I just connected 2 pc's with a crossover. One of them is using XP the other uses ME. Iam trying to play Jedi Knight 2 Multiplayer. When the cable is in, the game freezes at the main menu. I take the cable out it runs fine. Any Ideas? It only freezes on the windows ME pc. IT has an epox 8kha+,1600+ AMD Athlon, Savage4 32mb AGP.
