Specs: XP
Technology challenged here. Saw a college kid with a flash drive USB gizmo she claimed gave her internet access anywhere. Seems like a great solution for business travel. How do I get one and how do they work? Have searched internet and got nothing but confused.

Sounds like she is talking about a USB Wireless Adaptor.

These will give you Internet access providing you are in range of a Wirelss Access Point. Most hotels, railways stations, airports and other places were travellers and tourists congregate will provide Wireless Access, sometimes for free, sometimes for a small fee. Commercial establishments like McDonalds provide wireless access for their customers.

The usually go under the name of Wireless Hot Spots. A quick search on Google and the town you are interested in will give you and idea of what is avaialble.
