Perhaps someone can help me.I have a network with two computers sharing one another. There is a program I use called Instant Message where you are able to share photos and files.I had no problem in doing this, till I added a network. Now it tells me that I am behind a firewall and to set the port for the program to 4443 (which I have done) but I am still not able to send. Can anyone tell me what to do? Perhaps someone had the same problem..Also, what is a proxy and how do I know its settings or I have that?Sorry,I'm so new to all this ,and don't quite understand this lingo.. :(
Thanks for any help..
Amber

Hey there Amber,
lets start from the top, first you need to make sure if you are running a proxy, this is a program which runs on the main computer which has the modem (lets say thats computer A) to allow computer B (the other networked computer) access to the internet over the network.
If you are running one of these, then you need to make sure that it does not have a built in firewall, if it does you need to configure a port map for port 4443 TCP/UDP incomming and outgoing and if its needed you need to specify the IP address for the computer you want to map to. Lets explain a bit more here...
Ok you have computer A - IP: 200.200.200.1
This is the computer with the internet connection and running the firewall or proxy with built in firewallComputer B - IP: 200.200.200.2
This is the computer using computer A to connect to the internet and the computer running instant message.Ok now for this to work you have to look at the proxy with the built in firewall or the firewall itself and make a port map (this is basically a mapped connection to allow data from the internet to be sent to that port for the programs use on your computer) for 4443 incomming and outgoing and point it to your computers IP if it asks for an IP to 200.200.200.2
What this has done is made it so any data comming to computer A (the one with the internet connection ) to port 4443 to be sent to your computer (Computer B) running the program which needs to access the data on that port.
If you are running a firewall, then you will just have to make a portmap for your computer to allow data into your computer on that port 4443
I hope that helps, if it does'nt then drop us a message on our forum.
