I have an odd situation: I need to connect to a network, but it will only accept certain static IP's. Its not a standard range, so I cant easily guess it. I know this is the situation, and that it is not a messed up router/nic.
There is little to no network data, so I cant use ethereal on it. I can use any OS, but it seems like I will need some kind of bruteforce/scan to do this. Any ideas?

Login on any PC in the subnet. Open a command prompt and type the following command:
ipconfig /all
Write down the IP address and subnet mask and use google to find a good subnet calculator. Use the subnet mask and the network portion of the IP in the subnet calculator and that should tell you your IP range.

sounds like someone trying to hack their neighbors wireless.
Give a person a fish you feed them for a day. Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

I'm not doing it to hack into someones network, more of a proof of concept thing. I have access to the router, but I'm curious to see if there is a way to do it, wireless or wired.
Summary: Finding IP ranges won't help you set up an FTP server. The whois command on a Unix box or a web site that does whois will give you the IP blocks. However, most ISPs don't want you to set up an FTP ser...
