Here's my problem. I've got 2 systems with the exact OS (windows xp) on both. I'm trying to set up file sharing between the two.

The odd thing is that when I right click on the Shared Document folder and select the Sharing and Security option and get the "Shared Documents Properties" box, I get two different types of boxes.

One computer gives me the option to click the I understand the risk, ect. option to click. The other computer gives me 2 option boxes, but both are grayed out. They are: "share this folder on the network" and "allow network users to change my files"

Is there a setting that needs to be changed to give me access to these options and why do I have 2 differents boxes on the 2 computers when I'm running the same OS?

Thanks for any info.

on the machine thats grayed out:
right click my network places and select properties, right click on local area connection and select properties. now do one of 2 things, check the box for file and print sharing or install file and print sharing and then check the box.
good luck

Thanks for the suggestions, but it still won't give me the option to click any of the boxes. They are still grayed out.

I'm just wondering if something in my configuration somewhere is preventing me being able to select anything.

Also, why do 2 different computers with the same operating system have 2 different looking pop up boxes when they should be the same?

Again, any info is greatly appreciated.

Are you using Pro on both, Home on both, or a Pro and Home setup, cause the steps I say below only work for PRO

open up my computer, go to tools menu, folder options item, choose the view tab, and scroll all the way to the bottom and look for enable simple file sharing.

do that on both systems, and make sure both are checked.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the file sharing is already checked, so the boxes on the Sharing and Security option are still grayed out.

This is beginning to drive me nuts. Both systems are XP Pro, but I get 2 different looking pop-ups when I select Sharing and Security. Also, I just built a third system and its Security and Sharing has the same grayed out boxes that this computer does.

Any other suggestions??? Please???
