Hi, I have set up my network, but I am still having share problems. I've done searches for answers, but haven't found one that worked.
Okay, Computer 1 is XP Pro and is connected to hard-wired to router (Linksys WRT54G) and second computer is connected via wireless card. Cable internet works fine and I can grab files from Computer 2 while using Computer 1, but I cannot access files from Computer 1 while using Computer 2.
I've checked to make sure they are in the same workgroup with different computer names. I've checked for file and print for Microsoft client and I am able to ping each computer fine. I've disabled firewall (Microsoft and otherwise) but that hasn't remedied the problem.
Computer 2 is XP Home, but I don't think that is the problem. Help?

Ethernet to wireless needs a bridge. The router supports both, but when you run the network setup wizard it should create a bridge in the network connections area. Check the setting of this bridge, and if there isn't one you need to highlight the connection, rt click, and select bridge connnection. That should work, but if you ask microsoft they will technically tell you that you need a hub off the router port and then connect the two comps to that hub.(this isn't neccessary.)

I have a similar problem with my new network, but on a bit broader scale. I'd love some help.
I have a new Dell running Windows XP Home hooked by Ethernet to the same WRT54G wireless rounter as the above person. I am running a Windows XP desktop and a Windows XP laptop over the wireless connection, with no problem, all three computers having access to the cable internet, which is hooked up through the router as suggested by the router set-up instructions. Cable to Cable modem, cable modem to router, Ethernet to my desktop, wirelessly to the other two computers.
The problem comes when I try to set up the file sharing/network between the three computers. As soon as I run the network set-up on the Dell desktop, and then on the other computers, all computers lose connection to the internet, and still don't have connection to each other. Is it the bridge thing? I noticed when I run the network set up that the two computers connected wireless add a bridge, but the desktop does not. Perhaps that is the problem?
Also along the same lines, NONE of the computers would be the "host" for the internet connection, because the connection comes through the router, not through the Dell desktop (which is what I consider the main computer) first, correct? When I run the network set-up, it tells me I can't use the Dell desktop as host to the internet.
I love that we can all use the internet now, but I really want to get the file-sharing problems fixed. Any suggestions?

Additional info: Two of the three computers, including the Dell and the other desktop are running Zone Alarm which includes a firewall. I have turned off all other firewalls. Does Zone Alarm need to be off also before creating the network?
AND -- the Dell desktop does not include the option to "Share Files with other computers on the network" or whatever that exact phrase is. The other two computers, over the wireless connection do offer that option.
THanks,
Shannon
