k, this is relating to advanced sharing permissions.
when i click Add in either the security tab, or in the sharing tab>permissons, and then click locations, only this computer is listed. how can i make it so i can see all the other computers on my network? their all the same workgroup and everything, so i dont understand why the permissions thing wont let me use them as a root search location.
thanks,
Dave

This is essentially the difference between a Domain and a Workgroup.
In a Domain, all the users and their passwords are stored in the "Domain Controller" (server). When you sign in to a Domain, access is granted or denied based on the server stored permissions.
In a Workgroup, the users and their passwords are stored locally on each computer. A Workgroup based network does not have the ability to search for remote users permissions.
To enable access to others on a Workgroup, you must create each user with the EXACT same User ID and Password on each machine. After which their names will appear in your list of choices.
