I must tell you all before I start off that I am really at my wits end trying to solve this problem out and so any information or help I would be extremely grateful for.
So here go's. The problem itself seems fairly straight forward, it is file sharing between my main Windows XP computer and my windows XP laptop using a wieless network.
I have set the network up and I can ping all parts of my network and so I know that is fine. I have also taken off all firewalls and made sure that I have ticked to allow file sharing on both computers, as well as ensuring I have the files I want to share in the shared documents folder. I don't have any anti virus software installed - that wont matter anyway but the problem I am having is that I can not access computer files from my main computer from my laptop. Though I can the other way around. Every time I am on my laptop and want to access files from my main computer an error message comes up saying "...You may not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."I belive this is more a problem to do with XP than my network setup. I have to go into -Control pannel>administrative tools>local security policy>user rights assignment>access this computer from the network - and then attempted to insert my laptop computer in the access list. This should allow then my laptop to be allowed to access files from my main computer. Though each time I attempt this I try to insert the computer but it comes up with an error message saying it can't save changes (I think this is because I have tried to insert a computer here and not a group).
Has anybody any ideas, which do not include changing around user settings as they both are set as administrators, that I could possibly try :-)
I am a fairly qualified networker and very knowledgeable with computers but this problem seems to be a fairly tasking and difficult one to solve. I have already spent 1 week trying to solve this problem and would really appreciate as much help as you could spare.
Thank you all. Many regards,
ADAM STRAND

You must have a created a workgroup (I assumed) and make sure both computers are part of it. Then, make sure you SHARED the hard drive (root, or any specific location of it) that you are trying to reach.
Also, beware you must have configured the mobile unit (laptop) properly for it to be granted access to and from in the wireless network.
Quick question: what wireless hardware are you using?

Sorry about late reply I have been working the last few days. I am using a linksys router/access point and apcmcia card for the laptop (also linksys).
Yes you are correct in assuming I created a workgroup. It is caled HOME. I also have shared both hard drives and my computers are configured correctly for my network. I can see all computers in my workgroup and can ping all. I just can't access to the main computer though like I said I can the other way around.
Thansk for helping, any other help woul be very much appreciated. Cheers,

Wow....almost forgot: that message U are getting might be because you don't have an account on the computer that matches the one on the laptop. In other words, you might have an account on your pc (say, administrator) which is also on the laptop, but maybe when you use your laptop, you are using some other account that does not exist on the pc.
Check on that....make sure you have both accounts...in both machines...
post back if more help needed....good luck
happy new year! ';)
