Comment: I've read about 15 posts on this forum now where people ask "If I buy a router and share my cable connection, will I still be able to share files?" and everyone has answered "yes." But my answer is "NO!" because I can't get this to work with mine. LinkSys router going out to a netgear 4-port hub, both computers have file sharing turned on and are part of the same workgroup....they don't see each other....

Reply: (edit)NetBEUI is on both of the machines. One is a Windows ME, the other is a Windows 95. Are there certain setting for NetBEUI I should have? What about Primary Network Logon? Windows Logon? MS Network Client? Windows Family Logon? What about IP addresses? Should I assign them or have them obtained dynamically? When I try to assign them manually, my internet sharing doesn't work.... HELP!!!! :)

Reply: (edit)Primary protocol should be TCP/IP. Enable DHCP (dont use static IP's) Try these links: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/support/linksys_router_help.htm http://www.gameadmins.com/guides/linksys/linksys.htm http://www.linksys.com/tech_helper/faq.html

Reply: (edit)All protocols should be "Microsoft Network Client" TCP/IP, NETBEUI, and each nickards on each computer. LinkSys 4 port Router acts as DHCP server. I have similiar setup, Verizon DSL, One ME mach as host, two w/win98se as clients, we are able to share files printers and drives, each mach has own copy of ZA (firewall).

Reply: (edit)Okay, new twist that might help some of you to help me... I did get the computers to see each other, temporarily. I was on the ME machine, and I saw the 95 machine on the network, but when I double-clicked it, it said the share name might not be available. So I walked over to the 95 box, and low and behold, it was on the "Network Login" screen. So I hit enter and it logged in and finished booting windows and all that....but then when I went back to the ME machine, it wasn't showing on the network places. So it looks like they're both logging into different networks or something, even though their workgroup names are the same....this help anyone? Thanks.
