I have the exact same thing... I just put them in the same workgroup and restarted. To do this on Windows 2000 click on Start>Settings>>Control Panel>Double click System> Click the Network Identification tab>Click the Properties button> Then under member of click workgroup... the default name is WORKGROUP... change that and then go to your XP machine and Click on Start>Control Panel> Click Network and Internet Connections> Click Set up or change your home or small office> Click next twice and then choose This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or through a residential gateway (The hub)> Click next once... here is were you can tell which computer that the XP machine is if you havent already done that, click next> OK here you need to put the XP machine in the same workgroup that you put the Windows 2000 in, exact name or it won't work> click next twice and then choose Just Finish the wizard; I don't need to run the wizard on other computers> Click next> Click finish. Now restart both the XP and Winodws 2000 machine's and then check and see if both computers are "seeing" each other. In 2000 Double Click My Network Places on your desktop and then Double Click Computers near me, if that machine sees your laptop (By the way both have to be on in order for each computer to "See" each other) then your laptop will see your 2000 machine, now all you need to do is share files/folders on each machine and access them by double clicking the machine in the My Network Places> Computers near me... hope this helps and you know what I meen. I have the exact same thing going on in my house... any questions please e-mail me or IM me at i dont know99999 on AIM or whisper me on MSN at radicall8

One more thing... if your XP Laptop is wireless then you need to encrpyt the data... this should be abel to be done with any hub/PCMCIA.... if it won't work (I've had a bad issue with that) then get a hard wire PCMCIA card I got one for $30 and it works perfectly.... sorry that this is a lot to read but Windows is extremely grippy about this kinda stuff...

i have the same problem, an xp laptop with a 2k desktop. The laptop has wifi and the desktop is hardwired to the router. I did everything exactly as said above before i even came to this forum. The problems i'm having is that my desktop won't even show any computers in it's workgroup and my laptop says that it doesn't have permission from the administrator to access my desktop's shared files.
