My network is two PC's through a linksys router. I am using two PCI network cards in each PC to form an ethernet network. Am I right in thinking this is the 'fastest' home solution? Would a USB network be much slower than ethernet? I think my net work should be quite fast - the adapter in my PC is 1Gbps (I think), the other PC is 100mbps. Am I right in thinking that the network is a fast as the slowest component in the network i.e. if my router is slower than than my two NIC's the network is forced to operate at the slower router speed?
Many thanks.

Yes. You cant fill a two pint pot with a pint of water.

100 Mbs is more than adequate for a home network, especially with just two computers. There are other limitations at work that restrict the speed.

Just to be pedantic, 100 Mbs is not speed, it's bandwidth. A subtle difference. Speed is a function of time and distance. Bandwidth is a function of time and data. Bandwidth effects the amount of data transfered in a particular time.

I would add that having two network cards in each pc doesn't add anything to your config except possibly slow the network down since there can be some confusion as to which nic its talking in/out. Most SOHO routers do not support adapter teaming which is where you combine nics and virtualize the interface with one ip address.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
