I'd like to extend my wireless range. Here's my setup...In my basement I have a WRT54GS router. I also have an old fashioned signal booster from the 802.11b days. All it does is boost the signal, it doesn't seem to care that its b or g. Anyways, two floors up is my room. I used to get excellent signal, now not so much. I think it might have something to do with the 28" monitor sitting right next to my laptop. So I'm trying to figure out a way to extend the range/throughput. My first thought was a linksys range expander, stick it in a socket on the floor in between. I heard this can actually slow things down though. I currently have an actual ethernet jack coming into my room but its in use b/c of my slingbox and I don't know if I want to mess with that b/c then my slingbox and computer will be sharing one cable basically, slowing things down. I've tried linksys high gain antennas but the signal booster works better and you can't combine them b/c it slows things down. Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards range expander

I looked it up, apparently it lets me boost my xmit range. I'm afraid to do it now though, because I'm at work remoting, so if I upgrade my firmware it'll erase all my port forwards and then I'll be forever kicked off vnc
