I would like to take a computer with a wireless network card and hook a switch up to it through the ethernet port so that I can get internet access to computers I am working on without installing a wireless card in them. Is this possible? I have tried before but cannot get it to work.

You would have to setup a wireless ad-hoc connection with the other wireless pc. You would engage ics [internet connection sharing] between your wireless card and nic card.
You would be advised to get a Wireless access point and connect it to your switch so all wireless pcs can access your wired network.
