A second router is ok for that.
How will you connect the second router to the first router, wirelessly or by wire?

So I would suggest to choose a router, that supports repeater mode.
In repeater mode, the second router extends the wireless range, authenticates to the existing wireless network just like a computer and allows other computers, to connect to itself and forwards all the traffic to the first router.

The most current routers should support repeater mode.
In case of doubt, take a look at the datasheet on the manufacturers homepage.
