Hey all...

I'll be moving my internet/wifi downstairs... but I need to keep both wired and wifi upstairs as well.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS that will be downstairs... my plan is to run a network cable from that to another wifi router upstairs... and maybe also another non-wifi router to allow enough wired ports upstairs for game consoles and PCs.

So what hardware should I buy?, lol to make this as easy as possible? I want to keep ping rates as low as possible for gaming. I tried one of the "power line" solutions that worked well, but the pings were horrible.

I do already own a non-wired router and my current Wifi router so I'd prefer to simply buy one extra wifi router and have it work as an extender but I'm not sure how possible or how expensive this will be... or what will happen with pings and such.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
TK.

Just so make sure you understand the setup...

Downstairs--
cable modem
wifi router (4 port)
two computers wired
((would like to have wifi downstairs as well if easy/possible)
one wire running upstairs

Upstairs
wire from wifi router into another 4 port wifi router "extender"... and then maybe another non-wifi router to allow enough wired expansion

PC upstairs wired
HD-DVD player wired
XBox 360 Wired
Future PS3 Wired or wifi (not sure what model I'll be getting)
Wii (wifi)
two Nintendo DS (wifi)
two laptops (wifi)
Kitchen PC (wifi)

Plus.. both upstairs and downstairs need future expansion via wifi and maybe wired depending on needs as time goes.

TK.

After some reading... I'm between the D-Link DIR-615 and DIR-655. I think I'll just buy two of these and try to setup WDS to extend everything.

Not that I wanted to spend this kind of money, but I'll probably grab the DIR-655... has better range, speeds and Gigabit lan. ;)
