Change the subnet mask or DHCP range?

how is it setup, are you using DHCP, or manally setting ips, what is the subnet mask you are using?

You can have 254 pcs on a mask of 255.255.255.0.

Use a subnet calculator, basically the smaller the 255 number becomes the more hosts (ips) you can can host so,

255.255.252.0 can have more hosts than 255.255.255.0 and so on until the 255 reaches 0 and then you have a default subnet mask of 255.255.0.0

So if you wanted say 500 pcs you would use a mask 255.255.254.0

That does not look right to me.

255.255.254.0 results in 510 max addresses and has a range of 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.1.255 if you put 192.168.0.0 in the cidr calculator. This is a supernet. You will have problems if you just change the subnet mask without changing the ip range.
