i have an old smc1208 ethernet pci card and i want to use it for high speed internet.Yesterday i won a Asound 10/100 fast ethernet pci card.Do i have to change the old one for the new one or they have the same specifications.I heard about some card are base and other are not.And under win xp , what is the line speed i have to put for the configuration of my card.I got choice between TP HALF DUPLEZX,FULL DUPLEX,AUI/10BASE or BNC/ 10BSE2

Use the NIC that allows for the fastest interface speed. If the SMC only gives you 10mbps and the Asound gives you 10/100mbps, use the Asound. If it doesn't cause any problems set the NIC for as fast as it can be set for(see below). As for NIC's, they are pretty much the same nowadys. They might have a manufacturer specific add-on, but other than that they are the same. You don't see much new BNC type cabling (coax) nowadays, mostly Twisted Pair, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6 depending on your network situation.

10/FDuplex (10mbps using Full Duplex)
10/HDuplex (10mbps using Half Duplex)

100/FDuplex (100mbps using Full Duplex)
100/HDuplex (100mbps using Half Duplex)
