ethernet cable unplugged

Specs: Windows XP, 1GB

when i plug an ethernet cable into my laptop it's not recognised.

I put a lan card into my laptop to test it for a family member but it got stuck.

now that card won't let my existing NIC connect via ethernet, i can connect via wi-fi but i need to connect via ethernet to make configuration changes to my router.

If i uninstall the lan card it reinstalls itself when rebooted even when not connected to the internet.

Have you tried a different cable that you know for sure is good?

It could be a simple case of a bad network cable.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
