Hello!

I have a local network with 3 computers (2 XP desktops + 1 XP laptop) connected to a wireless ADSL Router, all with internet and file sharing working.

I recently added a 4th computer running Windows ME with a Wireless USB adapter to share a printer, but i want to disable internet on that computer, and any capability to access an external network. I think i have to disable the Gateway IP in that computer, but i don't know how.

By the way, surfing the internet i found a simple way to add a password to shared folders in XP Home, like we could do in Windows 9x/Me:

1. Enable Guest account
2. Start -> Run -> net user guest password
3. Add a password to the Guest account
4. Disable Guest account

This way, every first time we access a shared folder in a computer, it requests the Guest password, even with the Guest account disabled :)

I only do what the voices in my head command...

The client has to have a fixed IP address or an address in a set range of IP addresses it can call up. Then go into your router's port configuration menu and block ALL ports for that IP address (-range). He can still network locally but nothing he sends out of the LAN will make it through the router firewall.

Note that Me has no security settings so any user can can change his IP address and bypass your security. You're better off upgrading to Win2K/WinXP if you want to have some control over this.

Thanks. OrionCA. I tried a fixed IP before (192.168.1.200), but because it is a wireless USB adapter, i was only connecting it after entering Windows ME desktop, and share wasn't working this way.

If i connect it before Windows ME boot, it will enable share, and NO gateway :)

I have no security problem in using Windows ME because it is a family business, i only wanted to disable Internet access because the computer is only used to run a DOS commercial program and to work as a fax receiver.

Now i'm going to annoy Lexmark to find out why i can use the Z612 over the network, but not the X6170...

Thanks once again!
