Comment: I have earthlink dsl and I have to log in using winpoet (pppoe). How can I install a dsl Router and log into earthlink? I have a linksys 4 port router with pppoe support. do I install the dialer on both systems or just log on from the main computer? I would like to have an idea before I start the process.

Reply: (edit)I use Earthlink DSL and a Farllon router. The Router supports PPoE and allows me to enter the login infomation into the router configuration -- thus I don't even need to run the PPoE client on any computer. BTW, you need to enter the IP of the router as your gateway (I use 192.168.0.1 for the router (gateway) and anything else for the computers). If you use DHCP on the router, then you don't need to configure the computer beyond setting them for DHCP and the gateway. Good Luck (I'll check email but not this board. =)

Reply: (edit)I got Earthlink DSL and a Linksys BEFSR41 Router, had the same problem in the beginning, make sure you have DHCP enabled so that it assigns everyone an IP (all that are on your network) Then, using that type of router (linksys befsr41) open up IE or Netscape and type in 192.168.1.1, should ask for a password, it's admin (no user name) then on the first page you'll see PPPoE and RAS, make sure you click PPPoE and then in the username field type ELN/username@earthlink.net and in password type the pass they gave you.. then hit apply, and up top click STATUS and make sure you hit CONNECT and wait till it connects that's it! it'll stay connected constantly until u unplug/reset the router, which you wont have to do.

I was able to remove all of Earthlinks programs ,however i cannot find how to remove the earthlink logo in the upper right hand corner of my windows 98 page. Reply: (edit)I had the same problem. What I found was if the cable between the modem and the router was the cable supplied with the modem I could establish a connection, any other cable I could NOT establish a connection. Apparently something to do with a crossover vs a straight through cables. One more thing, when I connect the modem directly to my NIC card the modems 100M light is on, if I connect the modem to the router the 10M light is on. Other than the obvious for some (not me), is my DSL connections slowed down or my network or both?

Reply: (edit)Ignore my question. After reading the manual again, I found the the WAN connection on the router is only 10M. Everthing is working great.
