I am little bit confused about the duplex setting. We have two layer-3 switches at two diffrent locations and one of the port is configured for point to point wan link the ISP people configured it for half-duplex. My question is as half-duplex means one way communication, in this collisions can occur then also why they don't configure it for full-duplex. Please anyone clear my doubt

In this day and age can't really imagine why anyone would use half duplex and most new equipment supports full duplex operation . Anyway you look at it your speed and duplex settings must match on both ends of the link , if one is set as auto for speed and duplex then the other end must be auto also , if you try and hardcode one end you will end up with a speed/duplex mismatch and lots of errors and poor response.

The duplex setting is likely dependant on the ISP's equipment. Call and ask them about it as they're the only ones who will be able to help you.

"My question is as half-duplex means one way communication"
Yes and no. It means one talks at a time. So sender talks then reciever for example.
"in this collisions can occur" actually fewer collisions take place since there are less getting on to talk at the same time.
"why they don't configure it for full-duplex." You don't need it since your config fits your bandwidth. My comcast cable modem is half duplex as are my two work DSL connections. FYI
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Thanks to all . ISP person sent a mail to change the setting to full-duplex.
