I am creating a training network at home and I am having trouble with getting a hardware firweall onto the network. I have two NIC's in my server, one connects to the internal network (being a 16 Port Switch) and the other connects to the external network which consists of a Symantec VPN 100 Firewall and a Dynalink ADSL Modem Router. I am aware of the difficulty of having two default gateways. Are both NIC's required to have a gateway or just one of them? Basically I need to know what info each NIC requires for the network as a whole to work. Advise me of any other info you required to help solve the issue.

Your external interface should be getting it's IP information from your ISP via DHCP. Your internal interface should have the IP address of your router as it's gateway address. Configure your router to give your IP info via DHCP as well to all clients it will simplify your life.
