I have a linksys WRT54G router, of which I've had for 3 years. Never had a problem until this past week. Recently I decided to drop my cable internet in favor of dsl. Nothing was wrong with my cable, the speed was fine, just the price was expensive. Without the router connected to the dsl modem, i average about 1.3 mbits download, and 320 kbits upload. However, whenever I hook the dsl connection up to the router, it seems to slow down after I shut my machine down for the night. Initially, after hooking the modem up to the router, the speed was fine (where it should be). The speed was 1.3 mbits/320 kbits until I woke up this morning. Now, my speed is 700 kbits/320 kbits. The download is slower, but the upload is the same. This same thing happened yesterday. I had to reinstall my dsl and router, and the speed came back to 1.3 mb. I know it's not an issue with my ISP, it's gotta be the router, right? I would much rather not have to reinstall my dsl and router every morning to get the speed I'm paying for. FYI, the modem and router are hooked up separately from my computers power source. I.E. separate power strips, so the router and modem are "always" on. They don't get turned off when I shut my computer down. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Could there be some settings in the router that are left over from the cable install that are causing this?

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

It's possible, but it no longer matters. I switched back to cable internet today. The thing that sucked about my DSL, was I could only get 1.5 mbits in my neighborhood. That alone, was the reason I went back. Thanks for the help though jefro.
