problems - just starting with att/yahoo
just switched to att/yahoo basic dsl because of price promo
($10 per month for 1 year).
have been using zoom 5615 adsl bridge modem for past 2 years with no problem.
att is pressuring me to get and use their modem saying they don't support the zoom.
so i tried to connect with the zoom anyways and i've established some weird connection, at least seems so to me. i now have 2 connection icons in my taskbar. one is covered by a yellow triangle with an exclamation point.
it says "status: limited or no connectivity".
the other newer icon shows that i'm connected.
when i go into control panel to network connection, i see my ethernet controller listed and a WAN miniport being used with PPPoE.
seems to me that the att software i was strongarmed to download has somehow forced this connection.
this is all new to me.
any suggestions or info on how to properly connect?
thanks for your time.

I agree ATT kind of stinks.
Simple answer might be to get their junky old modem and install their crummy software.
I use a dsl modem set to passthrough, connected then to a router. The router (and maybe your device) holds my password and logon name. I let it connect. You may be able to set your device to be connection point instead of your computer. Use private IP's from dhcp router on your lan. Any computer and any os about could then connect without the hassle of the connection.
My guess is you have some setting from your old install that is confusing the issue?
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
