Hi everybody. For some reason (my boss wants me to even though I don't see why) I need to have a drive mapped before logon, as opposed to mapping the drive during logon as normal. In other words, Windows 2000 should be displaying the "press ctrl+alt+delete to begin" but the drives should allready be mapped, in other words the folders shared on the network should be availible as the i:/ drive. Is this possible?
The OS on the client is Windows 2000 Pro and the OS on the server is Windows 2000 Server. File sharing is set up with typical Windows file sharing. Thanks!
Jon

Not sure this will work (not used to working with 2k) but in NT you would use the "net use" command and save it in system32 with a .bat extension. The batch file runs at startup before the logon. Hope this helps, Aloha.

This does not appear to work. I added the line "net use i: \\sco1\ims_data pwd" to autoexec.bat, 000drivemap.bat (in system32) and also to autoexec.nt. The drive is not mapped when I log on. Are the mappings cleared when a person logs on? I just need to make sure this works before I install it on the server and test it there. As long as the drives are available when the "press ctrl-alt-del to begin" screen is on, thats all that is important. Thanks!

No, even with command line (net use), drive mapping need user/password pair to establish the mapping.
Then impossible to connect a network ressource before logon.

Are you using Active Directory, if so, right click on the computers OU that you want to map drives to, go to properties, group policy and new. Create a policy in 'templates', 'start up' to map your drives. These will then be mapped every time the machine is switched on.
Good luck

Still no luck. We are not using Active Directory unfortunately. I think Danny might be right since nothing I have tried has worked. I even tried running a batch file containing the line "net use i: \\sco1\ims_data pwd > log" through the task scheduler at startup. It did create log.txt, but the file was blank! I am running out of ideas here!
