Hey, all.

I was curious if this sounds like an ISP problem to you guys...

I am using a dial-up Internet connection on a Compaq Presario running XP SP2. The connection is always great...but the ISP has had trouble with things on their end in the past (but not too often so I can't complain)...

Anyway...browsing the Internet, doing nothing special nor downloading anything, suddenly pages start timing out - MSN Messenger goes offline - nothing will load. My little mini dual-computers connection icon is not flashing, just blank and not lit-up like when there's an active connection.

So I disconnect from the Internet and try to redial. The modem gets a dial tone, redials just fine, you can hear the handshake...and then when it gets to "Verifying Username And Password..." it just sits and sits...until I get an Error 691: The Username or Password is Invalid on the Domain.

Well that's crap because I was just there.

So after rebooting and attempting to redial, I connect. Thirty minutes later - the timeouts start again and I disconnect - here comes the Error 691 again.

I deleted the old connection and made a new one...all my information is correct.

I finally deleted the connection and turned off the computer..waited five minutes, turned it back on...and made another new connection. It connected. Now the timeouts haven't started again YET, but I'm wondering if anyone else thinks that this sounds like an ISP problem.

It happened that I was plagued with the Error 691 problem in the past and it seems like it was a problem with the ISP - so does anyone think that it could be a reoccurence?

Maybe it's you or maybe it's the ISP but if you really want us to determine the fault you need to first tell us who is the ISP.
