I am trying to hook up my IBM Netvista 8305 pc to my tv. I have a pc to tv converter box. I have a s-video/video out adapter cable that I use. The picture is trying to come through but there is a lot of static. I'm trying to buy a 8 pin vga cable for my converter but I need to know how to find out if the vga card has a tv out function. Can you help me?

Does your tv have a hdmi, svideo or vga port?

Normally you have no "converter" box. You take a regular vga cable and connect from the pc vga port to the vga port on the tv.
You would then connect a audio cable from pc to tv for sound.

If the tv has a svga port and so does your video card you would use a svga cable to connect the two.

The last step is to set your tv to the correct interface whether its Video, HDMI, or SVGA

Since you have a converter box you would hookup like this diagram and choose vga on the TV
