hi. ive been using optimum online internet service for about 5 or 6 years now. Im currently using the S84100 Surfboard modem from motorolla. I came across the motorolla surfboard modem SB5120 on sale. i noticed it supports docsis 2.0. i looked up my isp and noticed that it is docsis 2.0. however, my current modem only supports docsis 1.1. basically, would u recommend a modem upgrade and will this help me achieve faster surfing speeds? thx

Your modem is unlikely the weak point. It may help a bit but that would be on large large downloads. If you suspect it might then contact your local ISP service. They might have first hand info to help you decide.

currently, my isp advertises 15 mbps download 2 mbps upload. i am currently getting around 10 mbps dl and 2 mbps upload. could this be due to the modem being older or perhaps because my cable is split twice before it reaches my modem? would a doscis 2.0 modem help?

I would say it might help only if other things exist. That being a way to actually get more data to your house. That would include a lot of stuff. Your ISP has to have a 2.0 or above to support that modem in any event to get any improvement. You need to contact them.
