do i need a firewire

i am just about to buy a wireless router, which i understand has a built in firewall, do i need to purchase a software firewall i.e norton. if i do will it conflict that there are 2 firewalls running.

Just use your router as the "firewall". I wouldn't bother wasting any money on software firewalls.

I completely disagree with the above post. You will need software FW to control what goes OUT of the PC. Router FW does nothing to stop the outgoing traffic.

And, if you have a network with multiple computers, they won't be protected from one another without a software firewall.

really comes down to if you practice safe computing or not. You follow every link you are given or click on every email attachment you get then yes you would be wise to include a software firewall. Don't forget antivirus and spyware/malware checkers [I like the free ones best]

I have a linksys router and the zone alarm firewalls on my computers. THere is no problem. Zone alarm controls what goes out of the computers so it is worthwhile to use.
Concerning the linksys router I know little about its firewall except that the router has NAT. It is the Linksys BEFSR41 4 port router. I don't like relying on something I know little about. There is nothing in the router setup that I can see that has anything to do with a firewall.
