Specs: WIN2K Server and XPSP3
Hello. My name is ryan.. I am having a strange issue. when i ping any computer in my network i get back the same IP for all of them even if i ping from different computers/server. the ip address is 66.x.x.x my domain is a 10.x.x.x when i ping -a by ip address i get a response and the correct name. i did a tracert on the ip it returns and it ends up at another network across the net. and i just nuked and rebuilt the dhcp/dns server yesterday. any help would be greatful.

Thanks Ryan

info on the network. cable comes into a modem. it then goes into a router. then into a switch which connects 4 computers (XPsp3) a server(WIN2K) and printer(hp).

Have you already tried to flush the local DNS, cached by Windows?

ipconfig /flushdns

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Your W2K dns server is not configured correctly in that does the forwarders tab contain the isp's dns servers? It would appear to me your workstations and server are pointing to your isp's dns server not the w2k dns server.

The 66.x.x.x I will bet is your isps dns server.

yes i have flushed the DNS. they are forwarded to my gateway because that is where my i can get my dns that is given to my from my isp. 66.x.x.x belongs to another company called ap*** as the tracert showed. i may have this setup all wrong. this is the first time i have set up a network from scratch. i did pull the dns hosts from my router and put those into the forwarder so i am gonna take that out and see if that will resolve the problem.
