Greetings,

I got a linksys router for my network, I am hosting a web server on my computer that is going through that router. My ISP is blocking port 80, so my web server is going through a different port.

I would like to know if it is possible to get a domain and set it to reach my computer directly through the port I set.

If it is, I would like to know how to create the domain name server and set it up.

Thanks.

If your ISP is blocking port 80 then there is not much you can do about it except get another ISP that doesn't block port 80.

Port 80 is the default HTTP port. The only way round it under your present situation is to tell every one that wants to connect to your web site that you are using a differnt port and have them port the port number to the end of the URL thus:

www.yourwebsite.com:8080. Or whatever port number you chose. Not really a practical solution.

Greetings,

Thanks for the answer but is that even possible to have my domain name directed to target my ip address as the DNS? It would be a little bit more convenient, I will check to see if my ISP can do something for the port.

I am aware that even with the domain name, the users will need to specify the port but I would like to know how to set it up.

Thanks.

You can't have your domain name targetting a DNS. DNS perform a particular function and that is to return an IP address from a URL. Users get your IP address from a DNS server to begin with. To have the DNS append a port number is not possible without reconfiguring the server software. I dont think anyone is going to do that in a hurry.
