I have a question...

I have a small server which a user is able to remote desktop into externally over the Internet. They use this connection to run an application on the server and then backup their files to it. I am hoping to put the server into a DMZ as the user currently has access to everything on the server and internal network which is obviously a high security risk.

I just wondered if there are any known issues with DMZ setup and Remote Desktop? I am relatively new to the world of the DMZ so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

It's not that there's issues with RDP in DMZ that you would worry about. It's putting a windows server in a DMZ.

Why is this user RDPing in? What does the server do?

The only issue specific to RDP in a DMZ is to make sure the patch for RDP that prevents DoS is installed, but that's minor compared to the other issues.

why not just decreasae their permissions if you are worried about them being a risk. Even if the server is in a dmz, if they still have admin rights to it they can still screw it up
