my d-link wireless router is connected all good and stuff but i cant even get internet when connected with a ethernet cable, in wireless it says excellent connection and stuff but i try to go to a website and it cant. also the WLAN its not a solid light you think it might be the router... thanks
I don't understand your question. Are you trying to connect wired or wireless? What model router? Can other users in your LAN connect properly? Is this a home network?, College or work network?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
Try pinging the router. Check the owners manual on what the router's IP is -- unless you know it. It might be 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.2.1. Make sure everything is connected properly; it dosn't hurt to double check the connections.
I believe in the Big Bang. God said it, and BANG it happened!
Has the connection worked fine before and just dropped out, or has it ever worked on your configuration??? If you answer yes to the 2nd question, turn your Firewall off for now, and try it again.

I have found that a d-link router's ethernet ports don't work properly. For instance, we got a router a few weeks ago, and you're supposed to connect the DSL modem to the WAN port on the router, and your computer to the port 1 on the router. This configuration didn't work. Try plugging your ethernet cable straight into the DSL MODEM. If you can get online, put it back into port 1 of the router. If you can't get online, there is some configuration mismatch, but there is a workaround. Go to your command prompt and type "ipconfig." Write down the default gateway address. Now open internet explorer. Type in the default gateway address into the address bar. Find your wireless network settings. Now change your network name. (Mine is "[myname] Wireless Network"). For the sake of testing, turn off your network encryption. Do the same to your DSL modem. It should have Wireless Network properties. Make it the same name. Now Plug your ethernet cable (from your computer)into the DSL modem. If your DSL modem has more than one ethernet ports on it (mine has four) then run another ethernet cable from another port on the modem to the WAN port on the router. Your network should be set up. You can get online through the DSL Modem directly linked to the computer.
To access the wireless (in XP), make sure you are having windows configure the network, not third party software (like the DLINK software). Goto Control Panel, then Network options. Click on Wireless Networks tab, then properties. CHECK the box that says "Use Windows for Network Configuration" (something to that effect). CLick OK. Now in your taskbar, find the wireless network icon. Right click on it, and click "View Wireless Connections." Find your network that you just created and click connect. Try going online. If you can't, make sure PROXY server is DISABLED. It should work.
In Windows 2000, uninstall your 3rd party connection software. Now goto Network Connections in your control panel. RIght-click on your wireless connection card and click properties. Now go to the advanced tab, and find "SSID" in the list. Click on it, and type your Network name in the little box that appears. CLick OK. Your connection should restart and you should be able to go online.
