Comment:

I have a small home network that uses Wildblue as the ISP(cable). I have some transmission obsticles and need to boost the signal and bought the extender that they say I can use wirelessly to the Dlink-524 router I have. I followed the directions and did a setup and had it harwired to my laptop. Says it should setup automatically. NOT, I can get access throught the http address for the extender but cannot get to the d-524 from there or some how "link" them. Anyone have experience with this?? I checked the web site and they were a little helpful in that I have 2.4 GHZ portable phones and that can cause problems but I disconnected those and no change. Thanks !!!! :)

"extender"? can you list the manufacturer and model? sounds more like a access point which would be hardwired to the router not the laptop.

Dlinks page does show a dwl-g517. lists a g510 and g520

http://www.dlink.com/products/resource.asp?pid=308&rid=1046&sec=0

both the g510/520 are pci wireless cards.

Maybe you are looking at something like this

or take a look at this view

Looks to me like you have to decide what mode to put it into to make it work
