Ok guys, I am new to this pc stuff so here goes.. I just bought a router and am trying to hook up a second pc to my cable modem. At first I couldn't get any of them to work but now I atleast have one working, the main one, through the use of the router. Don't ask me how, I just hooked up the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and from the router to my pc on the first port. Then I hooked up the second pc to the second port but I can't get online. i do have lights on the router on the second port so I think it's connected. I think it has to do with a setting,,, I am guessing. I read some of the threads on here but it seems like there are more serious problems than mine,, or shall I say a bit too in depth for me to comprehend. I'm hoping mine is a simple problem, help anyone? The second pc is a dell poweredge 2300 server running win xp. The router is a D link, di 604. pretty straight forward. need more info? let me know... thanks for the help!

From a command prompt on the server that can't get online, run an ipconfig /all and paste the results.

On the back of your D-Link 604 you will find four LAN ports and one WAN port. Do you have the network cable from your modem plugged into the WAN port? If not, plug it in there, and use the LAN ports to run network cables to your PCs.

Yes i do, I connected the cable modem to the wan port, and the two pc's one to port one and the other to port two. The main pc is working fine through the router, it's the other pc that does not connect. I do have lights on the router, the power ofcourse, the wan, and link one and two. I read up on how to ping each pc from the other but it just times out. Thanks for the help.

It may be your ISP recognizes you client's MAC address (the first computer). If so check you router's setup for cloning the MAC address.

When I did, it said there was no network adapter card found. I then opened device manager to see what was wrong with it and it was disabled!! need I say anymore...? I right clicked,, enabled,, and Bam!! I was online in no time. Thanks for the replies guys,, both pc's are online now,, woo hoo!!

Maybe I should change my screenname?

When I try and hook up the router. It says I'm doing everything right the WAN lights lighting up and everything looks really good. But when it says to go to internet explorer and type in http://192.168.0.1 in which case something should come up for your usernam and password. It never happend it just goes to cannot display webpage. I Have this D-link http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=6
What am I doing wrong=S Or maybe can someone take a picutre of the back of there router and show it to me. That might help Alot.
