Ok first of all i purchased a wireless router (Dlink DIR-625 & desktop adaptor (Dlink DWA 542) back in October and i never yet got it working. I spent all day today(about 10 hours) working on this again to no avail. I called Dlink tech support many times and was hung up on twice since they don't know what to tell me.
My router (DIR-625) seems to be installed and working fine. I can view http://192.168.0.1/ and see all the settings no problem. This router works great as long at it is plugged in to the PC. The adaptor seems to be installed fine as the green light in the back is blinking regularily. The problem is when i attempt to use it as wireless nothing works. It seems that windows cannot find a wireless network. Among the things i have tired are:
1) Used windows to configure my wireless settings
2) Turned the above off and tried to use the dlink adaptor configuration utility
3) unistalled, unplugged the adaptor & reinstalled the adaptor and software
4) reinstall the router settings at the http://192.168.0.1/ website
5) tried different drivers for the adaptor (i have a1 and firmware 1.01) and i tried 1.02.
6) resetting the router many timesThat is what i remember. The tech support people told me to try alot of stuff to that i just can't remember all. Is there any hope of making this thing work? What is the point of a wireless router if it only works wired?

There could be a problem with the hardware or you may just not have it configured correctly.
One thing you can do is download netstumbler and use it to scan for a wireless network (namely, the one you created). If netstumbler finds your wireless network, the issue may be your adapter on the PC or it's configuration.
If you can't find the wireless network, then it's your router (again, either hardware or configuration).
I highly recommend taking both back to the store where you purchased them. Bring your bill of sale too. Explain your situation and what you've done to try to remedy it. Have them test both. If they're real nice, and you talk nice, the technician might even set up your wireless network for you so all you have to do when you get home is plug in your router and put the adapter back in your PC and connect.
If there is a hardware issue, you'll be able to get replacement equipment while you're there.

Thx for the message Curt. I dl and installed Network Stubmlinger and when i run it i am told no AP's are active. I think this means it cannot find the network. That could mean the router does not work or it is configured wrong i guess. I really have not messed with the config however, no encryption or anything.

Yes, netstumbler is pretty straightforward and easy to use. If it's not seeing a wireless network, then your router is either misconfigured, or faulty.
I suggest going through the setup guide again slowly and see if you can't get the wireless working. If it doesn't start, then you really should take the equipment back in so the techs at whatever store you purchased it at can check it out.
With luck, they can get it working (and set you up a wireless network at the same time). If it's a hardware problem, then they'll be able to replace the faulty equipment for you if it's still under warranty.

If you haven't already... check your other post foor some input I offered there.
Obviously one has to enable (as in switch on or allow) the wifi service in the router itself. This is done via the admin logon for most/all routers... D-link will almost certainly have made this pretty obvious as to where it is and how it's done?
