problems connecting to random sites through router. some connect, some don't. system works fine without router via Webstar modem. is it a DNS setting error? if so, how do I correct this?

hi,
i have the dlink 604 also had some troubles also.whats i did was on the router i disabled dhcp and went to control panel>>networking select your ethernet card should be local area connection.then i went to tcp/ip properties manually enters the ip addy of 192.168.0.101.
subnet mask of 225.225.225.0
default gateway is the ip of the router in my case 192.168.0.1.
and set the primary dns to the ip of the router again 192.168.0.1.
seems to help some.now let me ask you a qustion my di-604 discoonects same time everynight at aboout 1:40 am and connects and disconnects for about 10 mins resets itself at about 1:50 am have you encountered this problem also??

Dude, that is an invalid subnet mask!
255.255.255.0 is what I think you meant.
My honest advice is get a different router if you're having that many problems. DLink's can be stupid like that in my experience.

TROOOOOOGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!

my bad yes its 255.255.255.0 i was a little drowsey while typing that out.the dlink works great up til the same time everynight.i even set it to block ports at 1:35 am to 2:10 am just to keep it active during this time and i still get server timeout.ill figure it iut ,thanx for the correction.

Thanks for the input gents. turns out it was a firmware issue. though it took 4 calls to d-link to sort it out.

I have a DLink DI704P which I believe is just like the 604 except for the print server. If I remember correctly there is an option in the router where you can block traffic at certain times, perhaps that was set by accident. I can't verify this since somebody else's modem fried my router. I just "won" a 604 with the newer processor (the rev E) so we shall see if I have any problem running it on a Broadxent DSL modem with 2 static IP's.
