hey everyone,

i have a few problems:
after networking my house (3 laptops, 2 XP Pro SP2) with a D-Link wireless router and 2 d-link wireless recievers, the network works fine and everyone can access the internet.

problem 1:
all computer names are unique and all are on the same workgroup. but computer 3 cannot detect computer 1 and 2 but 1 and 2 CAN detect 3. however, 3 can access the internet perfectly wirelessly.

problem 2:
my computer (the sever) hosts a network drive called "intranet". permissions are set so that no one can edit any of the files on that drive. the drive hosts the network's website, which is supposed to provide updates for everyone's computer.

however, when people click the 'Updates' link, and try to download the updates from the network drive, my computer (the server) locks up for a few seconds and then either goes to a BSOD, logs off or restarts. no driver error is displayed in the BSOD.

but when i copy files from my fixed hard drive (with windows on it) to computer 2, the copy works perfect. im guessing Internet Explorer on computer 2 might be having problems, but i could be wrong!

problem 3:
sometimes, computer 3 CAN detect and access computer 1 and 2. thats when everything works perfectly except for one thing. when copying multiple files from computers 1 and 2 (sending to computer 3), after the first file has been successfully copied to computer 3 and the second file begins to copy, computer 3 crashes to a BSOD - unfortunately without a driver mentioned.

so wouldnt it just be easier if i remove all networking devices and stuff, and then reinstalling everything? if so, whats the best way to do that?

thanks for everything! i will reply. computing.net rocks!

I have more questions than answers. You called computer 2 a server. Is it running w2k or w2k3 server software or is it just running IIS or some other web server software? The reason I ask is, you mantioned a workgroup but not a domain.

Secondly, are all computers on an internal subnet? Is the so called server running DNS? If not, do all PC's have an external DNS entry?

I don't think that reinstalling would help at all.
