Disabling WAP on Dlink router..

friend has a dlink router hardwired to his desktop...he just picked up a HP laptop...he cant get connected my first guess before getting there to take a look is that he prob has a WAP encrypted password set...anyone know how to disable it before i get there?

He will have a manual for the router. The instructions on how to log in and change security settings will be there. Depending on the model, the GUI is easy to negotiate. you should be considering how to set the security up in the client machine rather than disabling it in the router. You should not leave any wireless network unsecured. Otherwise you just invite any passerby to use your connection as a public hotspot access point.

ya..thanks i realize that about leaving it unsecure...its just right now his new laptop isnt picking up on the signal so the first thing in my head is that there must be some sort of password on the router blocking him from gaining access...but once i disable the encryption cant i just re-encrpt the router once the new machine is added to the network?
