Direct cable connection

CPU/Ram: 384mb 800

I want to connect my labtop and my home PC to share files and internet. I have a cable modem. Both of my computers are running win xp home and I have a parallel cable on hand. Where can I find step by step instructions on how to do this?

The parallel connection will be way to slow.

Get a Cable/DSL router and a network card for your laptop.

Option 1... xDSL/Cable Router (with Built in hub/switch), 3 RJ45 patch cables (one from the cable modem) and two NICs

Option 2... Three NICs (2 in 1 machine) 1 RJ45 Patch cable and one RJ45 crossover cable (don't need a hub, but cannot be expanded as easily
